Karl Marx vs. Old Major
Much like Karl Marx and his theories moving people’s minds, Old Major moved the animals with his speech which lead to the insurgence of the animals. Old major had envisaged future goals for Animal farm, as did the revolutionary leader Marx did for Russia.
Both characters were oppressed by a higher elite - Old Major by Mr Jones and Marx by Stalin. These two characters had the same perspective on their people’s lives - everyone was working hard to support the people with power and that everyone should be equal.
Similarly to each other, Old Major sang ‘Beasts of England’ to encourage the animals to start the revolution, while Karl Marx wrote ‘The Communist Manifesto’ to motivate his people. Old Major inspired Snowball and Napoleon to start the revolution just like how Marx inspired Lenin and Stalin to start the Russian Revolution.
These two leaders both died before they could see the changes that they proposed, leaving the Napoleon and Snowball, Lenin and Stalin initiating the revolutions, but soon forgetting what ideal societies the leaders wanted for their people.
