George Orwell & his works
Animal Farm written by George Orwell in 1945 was a parallel to the Russian Revolution. This book is said to be a parody, allegorical, a satire and parallel to the Russian Revolution. Orwell was openly opposed to the ways of the Communist Party. This book is a satire and was written in a discreet way to attack the Communist Party. Many characters in Animal Farm represent those of the Russian Revolution. Manor Farm resembles Russia and Old Major, Snowball and Napoleon resemble the dominant figures of the Russian Revolution.
His other books, such as Ninety Eighty Four, Coming up for Air, Down and Out in Paris and London, etc mostly revolve around politics. He once said “In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.”. He is implying that the world is filled with lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia. This quote could even show his disapproval of the Russian Revolution.
Not only Animal Farm is about control and politics. The book ‘1984’, an allegorical story published in 1945 was about a low ranked member of the ruling party in London who’s frustrated with being oppressed by ‘rigid control’. He writes criminal thoughts in his diary illegally.
Another book called ‘Coming up for Air’, published in 1939 before World War II, was about an average man named George Bowling living in London. He won a small sum of money from a bet and decides to use it on a ‘trip back to memory lane’. He goes to back to his childhood town, to find it much changed. From spending more time at his childhood town, Bowling feel depressed that everything is no longer the same as before and that all his memories have been torn. The concept of “never being able to go home again” taunts him over his journey. This book was about a place that meant something to you, ruined. This might mean that Orwell had a place that he had many cherished memories, but they were dilapidated due to going back to them as they weren’t the same anymore.
